From elderly people with dementia to young people with learning disabilities, Anna has cared for them all at some point in her 15+ year career in care. She was originally in dementia care however moved onto youth care to broaden her skillset and learn more about the care profession. During this time Anna qualified as a motorcycle instructor and taught students with autism and ADHD, which she thought was important for them to “gain their independence to be able to travel to college independently and socialise with likeminded friends”, she says.
After this, Anna went back to caring for the elderly, and first joined the Canford family through an agency in 2016. Starting at Barty House, in Kent, Anna fell in love with the home was offered a position by the Home Manager to work part time as an ad-hock colleague. Anna accepted because the home had “high standards of care and the working environment was a pleasure to work in as were the staff”, and she remained there as bank staff until 2018, when she relocated to Southend.
Anna had committed to Canford and made the 90 minute each-way commute every day for four months until she was transferred to Cedars Care Home, where she continued to be a bank care assistant before moving into a new position in January 2020 as the Quality and Training Coordinator, which enabled Anna to use her training methods and skills in her new role at Cedars.
In September 2021, Anna took up a new challenge, in the form of Deputy Manager/Head of Care. Her new duties include ensuring that the home live up to its sparkling standards and taking full responsibility of the home in the absence of the Registered Manager. Good luck, Anna!
