Cedars Care Home is celebrating its tenth birthday this year – an amazing decade filled with fantastic residents with all sorts of interesting backgrounds, cared for by brilliant professionals who have always given their best.

Our official ten-year anniversary was actually back in February, on St Valentine’s day.  However, gloomy overcast February is hardly suitable for celebrating such a momentous occasion, so we decided to throw our birthday party on 31August, in the hope that the weather would be bright and match the event.

Fast forward to the afternoon of the party (happily, nice and sunny) and our home manager Victor Zingoni began the celebrations with a welcome speech and a quiet moment of remembrance for all those who have passed through the home. The assembled throng enjoyed a BBQ, and plenty of delicious refreshments were handed out, including a mouth-watering birthday cake!

It was great to see former relatives mingling with current residents, families mixing with both former and present-day staff, all brought together through mutual love and admiration for Cedars Care Home, and everyone involved with it. The party ended in a flourish with some rousing live entertainment courtesy of local Elvis tribute act, Paul Davidson, whose energetic and characterful little daughter Chloe also proved highly entertaining for all the guests!

Several current members staff who have been around since Cedars’ beginnings were honoured as core members of the Cedars family – a close family that is characterised by its ethos of love, caring, honesty, dedication and going the extra mile. A big group photograph marked this very special occasion.

Although the party only lasted a few hours, the celebrations here at Cedars have been going on for some time. They include a session of reminiscing a week before the party when staff presented residents with photos collected over the years from 2012 to 2022. Over the last few months, current residents and staff have also been encouraged to provide their thoughts about Cedars and what it means to them, for a time capsule to be buried soon and opened in August 2032!

In his speech, Victor told guests: “I can’t believe it’s been ten years since Cedars first opened in February 2012. Over the years we have cared for so many residents who have left a lasting impression on us. Let me take this opportunity to pay my respects to all those we have lost over the years.”

Offering his own tribute to Cedars staff, he added: “Through their dedication and commitment our staff were resilient, working through the pandemic. It was a difficult time for families as they could not visit their loved ones in the home. The staff at Cedars became their extended families. For that I would like to say thank you to all our staff. As a care home we always strive to deliver good-quality care to our residents, and this has been demonstrated by recommendations from members of the community and families. Here’s to another ten years of good-quality care!”

Cedars’ ten-year anniversary means a great deal to all of us affiliated with the care home. The celebration is not just a reason to party together, as close-knit communities are apt to do, but to mark a moment in time when the home can receive well-deserved congratulations for standing so strong and so tall, providing a comfortable home and a rewarding workplace for so many amazing people throughout the years.
