We were delighted to welcome several representatives from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) at our home recently.
The group, which was drawn from across the DHSC’s Adult Social Care Directorate, began their visit with a guided tour of the home by our manager Victor Zingoni. They spent the day chatting with residents and hearing their perspective on life at the home. They also talked to staff, including Victor, chief operating officer Laird MacKay and Debbie Day, the home’s head of activities and end-of-life lead about life at Cedars, the pandemic, how the home cares for residents who are approaching end of life and its proud participation in Care Talk Magazine’s recent round table talk on palliative care.
“We were so excited to show them what we do each day, how we provide good care and take pride in what we do,” said Victor.
Debbie added: “We wanted our visitors to relax and be completely themselves while at Cedars. It was a really positive learning experience for all of us.”
Jon, one of the DHSC visitors, said: “My colleagues Holly, David, Henna and myself would like to say a huge thank you to Victor, Debbie and the residents and staff of Cedars Care Home for such a warm welcome. We really appreciate the time that they took to talk to us and share their valuable perspective on working in adult social care. The home is clearly very well established and a place that you can all be proud of.
“It was great to talk to residents, too, including Doris, a 104-year-old lady who enjoys no longer having to cook, and Wendy, a former nurse, who had met her father for the first time aged five after he came back from the Second World War!”
