The wellbeing of our residents is paramount to us and is something that every member of staff has an input into. Our Nurses stations at Cedars is the hub of the home, and a lot of our residents congregate here to catch up with friends and our staff members. So, this is where the idea of our busy crates comes from!
These crates are packed full of books, playing cards, paint brushes, games and so much more, but they also hold a small bio of each resident on every floor. This is a short life history that gives a quick insight into our residents, which allows our staff members to really get to know our residents, what makes them tick and how their life has shaped them as an individual.
For example, one of our residents David is a keen artist and used to sell his paintings at craft fairs. So, if he is feeling anxious our staff know that a pad and a pencil would be the best thing to offer him.
All of our residents are individuals and getting to know them is one of the best parts of our job as staff, and understanding how they tick can help us even further to provide person-centered care.
