What is Canford Healthcare?

Formed in 2007, Canford Healthcare provides premium-quality residential nursing and care services to the elderly within eleven comfortable homes across East Sussex, Kent, Essex and Middlesex. We also have support offices in Maidstone and Bournemouth. We pride ourselves on providing care that is truly person centred within a safe, comfortable and reassuring environment.

What are your vision and values as an organisation?

Our vision is very simple – we aim to deliver outstanding care to each and every one of residents, all day and every day. This aspiration – and everything we do as a company – is underpinned by our values of Care, Family, Honesty and Commitment. Strong and consistent relationships between our managers, staff, residents, relatives and our professional colleagues, as well as high ethical standards, trust, transparency, mutual respect and a focus on dignity, enable us to deliver the very high standard of care that our residents have every right to expect from us.

Where are your homes?

We operate four homes in Kent – Barty House Nursing Home in Bearsted (near Maidstone), Maples Care Home in Bexleyheath, Mayflower Care Home in Northfleet (near Gravesend) and Tunbridge Wells Care Centre. We have three homes in Essex – Cedars Care Home in Southend, Heathlands Care Home in Chingford and Willows Care Home in Romford. Our two Sussex homes are Ashridge Court Care Centre in Bexhill-on-Sea and Inglewood Nursing Home in Eastbourne, while our London homes are Hampton Care Home in Hampton (near Richmond) and Parkfield House Nursing Home in Hillingdon, Uxbridge.

What about your staff’s experience and training?

We have a strong team of incredible carers, nurses, administrators, caterers, housekeepers, facilities and activities organisers who have created a unique community, ensuring that each resident feels included and welcome. Our home managers and their deputies are highly experienced within the health and social care sector while new staff have a thorough induction process followed by rigorous ongoing training. We encourage them to pursue additional qualifications to add to their expertise and further develop their carer in care.

What makes your homes stand out?

Our homes are comfortable and well-equipped with gardens that are safe and secure. Our staff are highly trained and experienced with a genuine passion for caring. Residents’ needs always come first and our staff work hard to look after and keep them safe, while enabling them to live life as independently as possible. Everything we do at our homes is supported by our values of Care, Family, Honesty and Commitment. We pride ourselves on our high ethical standards and strong focus on quality and governance but it’s the close-knit family feel that, we believe, sets us apart from other care homes. We see our residents (and their relatives) as an extension of our own families, offering care with compassion and striving always to go above and beyond the call of duty.

I’ve seen some awards logos on your website – what do these mean?

While we run our own internal award schemes to recognise a job well done – commending attributes such as efficiency, helpfulness, creativity, knowledge and expertise or being cost-aware – there are also numerous external awards schemes. These celebrate excellence across the sector, promoting best practice within the care home industry and lauding the contribution of outstanding individuals and teams. We nominate our staff for these if we feel that they have gone over and above to support others or receive consistently excellent testimonials from residents, relatives or professional colleagues. Such people are the embodiment of our values of care, family, honesty and commitment and they deserve to be recognised. We are regularly winners and finalists at the HealthInvestor Awards, National Care Awards, Care Home Awards, Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards and Great British Care Awards.

What’s the level of expertise in your top team?

Our management team brings a wealth of experience at a senior level from a wide range of industries including health and social care.

How do you comply with legislation and quality standards?

We work within such legislation as the Care Act 2014 and our home is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). CQC carries out inspections at regular intervals, but we also use various internal methods to check that we are providing the best possible quality of care.

How do you maintain high standards?

We work closely with the NHS, GPs, local authorities, other professionals and companies such as Microsoft and Person-Centred Software on new initiatives on behalf of residents. We attend forums and conferences to ensure that we are up to date on best practice and maintain a dialogue with our residents, relatives, staff and professional colleagues, surveying them regularly to get their feedback. We also have a confidential quality helpline and work hard to resolve any problems quickly and courteously.

Will my personal details be shared with anyone?

Protecting your security and privacy is very important to us. Using our robust privacy policy we make every effort to secure your personal data and maintain your confidentiality in accordance with the terms of the Data Protection Legislation.

What type of care do you provide overall?

Our dedicated and highly professional staff provide long-term residential, nursing, dementia and palliative/end-of-life care with empathy and compassion in comfortable surroundings. We also offer shorter-term care to cover a carer’s holiday or period of absence (also known as respite care) and convalescent care to help someone recover after a stay in hospital.
