Our own Debbie Day triumphed over hundreds of other entrants to win The Palliative Care/End of Life Award at this year’s Great East of England Care Awards recently – and she wasn’t even in the country!
While Debbie was abroad on holiday, the accolade was accepted on her behalf by Deputy Manager Nicky Williamson at a glitzy ceremony at the Holiday Inn in Peterborough. The awards celebrate excellence across the sector, promoting best practice within the care home industry and lauding the contribution of outstanding individuals.
This is the second time that Debbie has won this award for her work as our End of Life lead, a sensitive and responsible role. It involves planning and co-ordinating end-of-life-care, ensuring that residents’ final wishes are upheld, supporting their families and communicating with medical professionals.
In the judges’ view, Debbie “demonstrated real person-centred care, putting her service users’ wishes first. She is kind, caring and compassionate and gives over and beyond in her role. We all need a Debbie!!”
A delighted Debbie says: “Winning this award was a real team effort. Everyone in the home is involved at someone’s end of life. We get to know residents well and understand what they need so we can put things in place for their final days. For me, doing this is an honour.
“At Cedars we work hard to embody the National Gold Standard Framework. I’m very proud of Debbie and Team Cedars for all their hard work,” adds Home Manager Victor Zingoni.
Debbie and the other winners will go through to the Great British Care Awards final at the ICC in Birmingham on 20 March 2020.
